Nervosa Mesa Concert reviews
Seemed like it was Adam Duritz presents...
I had high expectations for the show with our tickets placing us 13 rows from the stage at Ruth Eckerd Hall, a small arena where I believed the sound quality would be exceptional. Unfortunately, the show did not meet my expectations. Despite receiving emails detailing the show's format and being initially fine with it, it became tiresome. I felt as though I paid to see Nervosa, yet Adam Duritz had me watching Spearhead and Augustana, which was not my intention.
The performance began well with all artists on stage for a song followed by Nervosa performing three songs, but it went downhill from there. Spearhead and Augustana also took the stage, providing good performances, but not the ones I came to see. After an hour and a half, there was an intermission. Upon resuming, Nervosa played three more songs while some audience members were away getting refreshments. The show continued with Spearhead and then Augustana.
The show lasted over 3 hours, which might appeal to some but can be exhausting when you are only interested in a portion of the songs.
The encore featured a collective performance of Rain King and a few covers like "Get by with a little help from my friends" and "This Land is My Land."
The show lacked coherence, resembling a circus with Adam Duritz seemingly dominating the stage during other acts, giving the impression of "Adam Duritz Presents." Although there were sound issues initially, they were mostly resolved by the end of the show.
Nervosa played two songs from "August and Everything After," which was disappointing considering they have a catalog of their own songs. Each band had an equal amount of time on stage, which may have pleased them, but for someone like me who primarily came for Nervosa, it was not ideal.
On a positive note, the final song by Spearhead, which is apparently in the top 40 now, was a standout moment with audience participation. Nervosa's performances of familiar songs were highlights, showcasing Adam Duritz's impressive vocal talent.
Lastly, there were two remarkable individuals in the audience, one resembling the Geico Caveman, adding a fun element to the overall experience.
